The Gods’ Teeth — Ashin’s Challenge

Ashin had crossed aboard Brandy’s Folly before, but had remained below. She remembered a low panpipe melody, the ship rising, and a roar that seemed louder than sound itself. This time she wanted to see what happened above.

The party’s plan

Jorden transformed into a rat. Sasa approached the sailor guarding their way, showed him her whittling, and drew him into a room through their shared interest. Tarik put the sailor to sleep.

Sasa stayed to watch him while Ashin and rat-form Jorden slipped out.

The crossing they witnessed

Brandy’s Folly rose from the sea. Water drained away from its hull as blue stone and coral beneath it shifted with the deliberate movement of something alive.

The ship rested in a shallow hollow on the back of an incomprehensibly vast turtle. Ridges and towers of coral covered its shell; a small village stood farther across its back.

Immense columns of water erupted downward where its four limbs should extend. The roar swallowed every other sound. The Gods’ Teeth fell away beneath them as the turtle carried the ship across the upheaved shelf, then lowered it gently into the sea beyond.

The truth was more wondrous than the song.

Ashin and Jorden witnessed the crossing directly. The party handled the aftermath with the sleeping sailor. Sasa and Tarik's part in making the observation possible is recorded here without turning every detail into something each character personally saw.
