The Gods’ Teeth — The Wharf
The expedition gathered at the wharf the next morning. A brisk breeze carried linseed oil, spice, salt, and fish. Gold light dappled the harbor; sailors, porters, passengers, barrels, and moving cargo crowded an awkward gangplank leading to Brandy’s Folly.
Neighbors exchanged “Smiley day to you” and “Peace, neighbor.” At seven, the morning benediction sounded.
The benediction
No peace is made by silence alone, nor unity by agreement in all things. Peace begins when we remember that the stranger has awakened beneath the same sky, carrying burdens we cannot see.
Today, offer one person the dignity of being heard. Ask before you judge. Explain before you condemn. Where another hand reaches toward the same good by a different path, do not strike it aside—take hold of it.
May our differences sharpen our wisdom, our patience preserve our fellowship, and our labors become lighter because we bear them together.
Go gently into the day. Remember Vros once walked among us.
The theft
A cutpurse took Sasa's supplies amid the crowd. The party dealt with the theft and had the guilty adults arrested. A boy of about thirteen escaped.
The expedition boarded Brandy’s Folly and departed the Kinlands.
