# Votaries

**Votaries** are Clanks most strongly associated with the Divine Kingdom and its [Soul Smiths](Soul%20Smiths.md). Many were created for service, but free, escaped, and independently constructed Clanks also exist.

They do not breathe or eat and periodically enter a dreamless restore mode. Brass-sheet bodies can be tough at the surface and hollow within. Unless properly sealed, they function poorly underwater.

Under this campaign's player rule, magical healing does not restore a Votary's HP or Stress. Appropriate repair, restore mode, and ordinary nonmagical downtime recovery remain available. Work with the GM on a character's construction and what they know of it.

The complete player rule is in [Campaign Framework for Players](../../Player%20Resources/The%20Veiled%20Face%20of%20Chaos%20-%20Campaign%20Framework%20for%20Players%2C%20version%201.0%20%281%29.md).
